Biochemistry of .. blooooood!
This dates waaaaay back to October 2009.
I can't be bothered to rotate the photo above so it might be hard to see, but it shows my Biochemistry lab book and the experiment we had to do that day.
We were told to bring in some food (I took in 3 bananas!! :D) and had to measure our blood glucose concentration before and after eating.

We had to prick our fingers three times - one before, one 30mins after eating and the last one, 90 mins after eating.
My blood glucose conc. stayed the same for the first two measurements, leading to a hasty conclusion that I have a fast metabolism. But then, I realised that I had my lunch just an hour before the experiment, so this kinda biased the results a bit.
We also centrifuged our blood and performed electrophoresis to obtain our lipoprotein bands. It was one of the most interesting labs, besides most of the other Hubs (Human Body) labs, where we get to dissect a deer's knee and 'electrocute' our funny bone to create twitching in the fingers.. just to name a few :D
I was really excited to go to this particular lab session that a friend, who wasn't in Health Science, thought I was mad.

My lipoprotein band is the one on the top! :)
So cool! But, must be really painful when you prick your fingers. I could still remember how painful was mine because we were provided a razor blade instead of the needle itself and my finger was bleeding a lot! -_-||
