Tears were rolling slowly down her wrinkled face. She wiped the tombstone, fiddled with the flower arrangements that she had placed at the side just a minute ago.She stared longingly, her glance misted. Her lips trembled... she was trying to be strong."They give me 10 million, 20 million. So what? I'm lonely"SilkAir Flight 185 - 19 December 1997

Crashed into Sumatran river. Abrupt descent. Vertical nosedive after turning 180deg.

Mummy, Ivy and I were watching
SilkAir Flight 185: Pilot Suicide? yesterday afternoon. It was a documentary outlining the tragedy that occurred 10 years ago. It wasn't just scary - it was full of conspiracy. The investigators worked on it for a long time - trying to disclose the reason behind the ill-fated journey. Some believe that it was pilot suicide - because of his background (debts etc) and also because the black box is disabled a few mintues before the crash.
But after 6-7 years, it was finally brought up in court in 2004, that it was
caused by a defective servo valve in the plane's rudder resulting in a rudder hard-over. The rudder manufacturer,Parker Hannifin was ordered to pay the three families of victims involved in that case US$44 million.
Basically, it was technical fault.
We thought it was quite unfair to blame the pilot. Haih.

The victims' families must be in deep grievance. I cannot imagine how they'd feel. The holes in their hearts.. I don't think they can ever be filled up.
Current mood: yawny and affected
Currently listening to: Zou You - Wilber Pan

=(
well, how come the company paid to 3 families only? how abot the rest?
i dont think it's the pilot's fault...a person who wants to die will not take so many innocent people with him!
yea, it's unfair to blame it on the pilot!
