No, I'm not going to write up a whole post about this. On Wednesday, my Chemistry class and our Chemistry Teacher Mr. L, attended the Daniell Lecture given by Professor Ryan at University College London. We left the school at around 4pm and got home at 8pm. It was really fun : there were 4 girls - Nicoletta, Katie, Katerina and I. We all took the train from Ealing Broadway all the way to Euston Square. The lecture was interesting but by the end of it, I was utterly confused, becasue it was quite complicated as he told us about his project. Nicoletta, Riccardo and I took some notes but mine wasn't as extensive as theirs. Riccardo even translated some of the notes into Italian so he could understand it. Smart! haha... On the way back, while we were walking.. they suddenly started laughing and Nicoletta was grabbing my arm. I was a bit blur and then I realised that there were a few guys.... naked.... going into a building. I didn't see them though and Nicoletta was saying that I was very lucky that I missed it. :P I joked to her that she'd be having nightmares that night as she was quite freaked out :P!!!!
Thursday night, Katerina, Oli, Ruaridh and I went to Mencap - in my previous posts, I said it was Maincamp, sorry- wrong spelling - Anyway, it's a place where people with learning disabilities go to have fun. I kind of expected kids and teenagers but... they were all adults. The ages range from about 19 to 60? Something like that... They have minds of about 5 year olds though. I feel really sorry for them. What we did was play with them. I was the first to be pulled away by this sweet lady - about 40ish- and we played puzzle. When she first pulled me away, she hugged me straightaway! So sweet...! Then, she told me.. "you're nice" "you have nice hair" ... Aww.... it's so moving. Then, I drew with another woman - who's REALLY like a 4/5 year old. we drew trees, teddies.. and she's really shy. She said she wanted to draw that for her mum. She looks about... 40 ish too.. Freaky thing is when we got there, we were shown around and the person in charge told us, "Don't worry about the people here. They are all big sizes, but they won't hurt you. But there's one - Jimmy - " I went quizzical and in my brain "Uh-Oh" sounded. She continued, looking at Katerina and me, "He will go up to you and kiss you on your head. That's what he likes to do with new girls... coming here. Don't worry about it. He's sweet" Alarm bells sounded, and in my head I just went, "HA??!" haha... so after a while through the night, Kat was sitting beside me drawing with another guy, while I was with Marg (the second woman) and I heard a kiss sound. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw "Jimmy" had kissed Kat's head and I went rigid. "Oh no!" I was muttering inside. I tensed and anticipated it. Peck. Haha!!!! I turned and smile, sai hi, then quickly went back to my drawing. Scary!!! I don't dare to look at the men in their eyes... creepy. One man keeps saying to Kat, "You're my friend" "You're lovely" "I like you".. and it freaked the both of us SO much. She had to run to the boys. But I really admire her bravery. I made a point of sticking to Marg the whole time so I won't have to be with the men. I feel sorry for them though, it's not like he's doing it on purpose... Sigh.. Can only pray for them. After that, I played table tennis with Ruaridh and then we went home. Our next duty is on 23rd Nov. Yep.. first time is indeed intimidating.
Hmm, besides that, the week was full of rushed study in time for our 2 weeks holiday starting yesterday. So much of a holiday... it's basically study time.. I have exams the whole first week back. At school.. some people make the days bearable - really funny! Esp. on Friday when we had double Physics. I was minding my own business - the teacher wasn't doing anything at that time and my classmate - the joker - R came to my table and said hi. how are u. and then walked away. I was thinking to myslef, "what??? weird" half an hour later, I noticed a piece of paper on my table and flipped it over and nearly <- i repeat, NEARLY, burst out laughing. On it is written "Your secret admirer" and some red hearts. I find that really funny, and NO, it's not true. They love joking around with me so I do not take it seriously. When class ended, I packed my things slowly (laughing inwardly) and I noticed them walking behind me towards the door... and they were very slow.. looking to my table. I walked off without the paper and smiling and then M said, "Selene, you left something!" M and R were both pretending to be worried that I left something behind and I just said, "It's not mine" and walked off. Later that afternoon, Nicoletta came in and suddenly showed me the paper. She was surprised and said someone pushed it into her hands. I was laughing so much and told her that R and M was joking around. She looked so relieved!
But I got hit with a paper ball during last period, the guys were playing "rugby" sheesh.. hehe.. the guy couldn't stop apologising. Luckily, when they were kicking a bottle around I wasnt hit.. My classmate was hit though... poor her.. oo well.. that concludes this week.
it's really good. was the mencap thing a volunteer work? it's good community service where you can pick up snippets of experience. good for your cv too. :) keep up the good job!
