Prologue
The cries of the baby could be heard from the boat. They must not allow the baby to be in danger. Not after the promise they had made. They would die to save her.
The 3 year-old boy looked at her fearfully huddled in the corner of the boat. The woman coaxed him gently, “Don’t be afraid.”
Her husband returned, clutching the now silent baby tightly to his chest. “Let’s get out of here. There was a tripwire. I think I set one off accidentally. They’ll catch up to us soon if we don’t get a move on.” he whispered urgently.
Placing the baby next to the boy, he started the engine of the boat. The boy looked down at the strangely calm baby. Her big brown eyes stared up at him. The boat started slicing through the water silently. They were at least 2km from the ExcelLuen ship when an explosion sounded. Looking back at the remains of the beautiful, metallic ship that was built for the simple reason of transporting drugs, the man and woman sighed. The background noises were now filled with screams and angry rants.
A basket flowed nearby, and the woman whispered, “What’s in there?”
She reached in and touched the content. There was a baby! The little child began to wail at her touch. She took the basket into the boat and cried with disgust, “Who would leave a baby floating like this?”
Even before their present case was over, there might be another case on the way, regarding that baby. But Raye Wang was tired and knew she wanted no more to do with criminals. She wanted to settle down with her husband and live normally and safely.
Lime Wang held the baby close to him and said, “This is Kip’s son! He wasn’t gone. Now the siblings are reunited again!” The 1-year-old baby in the basket was identified by the necklace he wore which had a carving of his name. Raye sighed with relief that everything seemed to turn out alright. She found a paper in the basket too, with an address written on it, which later, they would discover led them to finding at least 560kg worth of cocaine. But who would put the address in a basket and give it to them? What was their motive? Then, they heard a cry, followed by laughter, accompanied with sirens. The police were dragging the criminals. It’s over.
Or so they think. They were unaware that somewhere in the bushes near their stilled boat, a pair of eyes scrutinised their every move.
Meanwhile, the man dragged away by the police chuckled to himself crazily, his narrowed eyes blazing and looking towards the couple faraway. “You’ll pay…Oh yes… you will. I will get revenge…”
